Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about StrideTrack.

How does StrideTrack track my shoe mileage?

StrideTrack reads workout data from Apple HealthKit. When you complete a run, walk, or hike that's recorded by your Apple Watch, iPhone, or third-party apps (Garmin, Strava, Stryd, etc.), the distance is automatically added to the shoe you've assigned to that workout.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. StrideTrack works with any workout data in HealthKit, whether it comes from Apple Watch, iPhone motion sensors, or third-party fitness apps that write to HealthKit.

How do I connect HealthKit?

When you first open StrideTrack, the onboarding flow will ask you to grant HealthKit access. You can also connect later from Settings. If you previously denied access, go to iOS Settings > Health > Data Access > StrideTrack to re-enable it.

Why are some workouts showing 0.00 miles?

Some third-party apps (like Stryd) store distance data differently in HealthKit. Make sure the source app has full HealthKit write permissions enabled. Go to iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > [App Name] and ensure all data types are enabled, especially "Walking + Running Distance."

When should I replace my running shoes?

Most running shoes should be replaced between 300 and 500 miles. The exact number depends on your shoe type, body weight, running surface, and gait. StrideTrack lets you set custom thresholds per shoe and warns you when you're approaching them.

Can I track shoes for multiple sports?

Yes. StrideTrack supports running, walking, hiking, trail running, cross training, tennis, basketball, and more. You can assign different shoes to different sports and manage per-sport rotation limits.

Is my data private?

Yes. All data stays on your device and in your private iCloud container. StrideTrack has no servers, no analytics, no accounts, and no third-party SDKs. See our privacy policy for details.

How do I delete a shoe?

Open the shoe's detail page, tap the menu in the top-right corner, and select "Delete Shoe." You can also long-press a shoe card on the home screen to access the delete option. Deletion is permanent.

What happens when I retire a shoe?

Retired shoes are moved to your archive. You can rate the shoe, add a retirement comment, and view its full history at any time. Retired shoes no longer appear in your active rotation but their data is preserved.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings within the app and use the "Erase All Data" option (requires Face ID / Touch ID confirmation). You can also uninstall the app to remove all local data. iCloud data can be managed through iOS Settings > iCloud.
